Pharmaceutical Policy Research Collaboration
Project Goals
Two-dozen academic experts from universities all across Canada, writing articles that keep an eye on “Big Pharma”: that’s the Pharmaceutical Policy Research Collaboration (PPRC). Their new website needed to accomplish three main objectives:
- Win publicity – the experts at PPRC need their research to be findable by journalists and government staffers, in a timely and topical fashion
- Gain efficiency – articles needed to be postable from anywhere, by anyone, in French or in English
- Step it up – the look and feel of the site needed to leave behind the cluttered, text-heavy impersonal vibe of their old website, and of their competitors
Our Approach
We partnered with our friends at Industrial Brand to walk through a careful strategy, a deep wireframing process, and thorough design experience before building the site. On the new site:
- The experts are everywhere – within a click from any page, you can get the face, bio and contact info of the pharmaceutical research expert you need. The top-notch research is front-and-centre, right from the homepage, with sidebar modules piping in hot content at every turn.
- It’s easier than ever – anybody posting new articles gets an effortlessly simple back-end experience. Behind the scenes, a robust engine makes it all run, linking French and English content together in the newest open-source content management system, Drupal 7.
- The design shines: We shunned the impersonal, text-heavy look of the other competing websites, instead showcasing the vibrant personality of the PPRC with bright colours, lots of human faces and a clean layout.
Results
On the new PPRC site, the results are coming in and engagement is up. Already we know that people are reading the research, more people are visiting and more people are participating. Here are the stats:
- The time spent on the site by users has increased by 57%
- Visits are up by 18%, page views up by 68%
- The number of articles on the site has increased dramatically, now that content is easier to add, and can be contributed by any member
